Toys for Your Newborn

what babies love

Since a newborn baby’s vision is limited, it’s best to buy toys that are heavy in black and white, bright colors and bold graphic designs. Toys are a great way to encourage your baby’s sensory and fine motor development. Some great toys for this are:

  • Baby-safe mirrors (meaning unbreakable glass)
  • Soft books
  • Mobiles
  • Activity centers
  • Baby gyms
  • Rattles
  • Soft toys (ones that make noise are great)

In addition to toys, don’t forget music and educational videos. Babies love music, so play a CD with baby lullabies. You can even find bilingual lullaby CDs to expose your baby to foreign languages from this young age. Finally, there are educational videos geared to newborns, filled with black and white graphics, bright colors, bold design, music and some even integrate one or several foreign languages through speech and songs.
