Hanukkah is such a special time and food is such a big part of the holiday that kids are sure to be interested in helping out in the kitchen. While you have fun cooking those wonderful Hanukkah recipes together, why not share a few introductory Kosher kitchen tidbits with your kids?
As you mix up a batch of latkes, you could discuss the way a Kosher kitchen separates the different ingredients. You could explain that the eggs you are cracking into the bowl are Kosher because they came from a chicken and Jewish law says that eggs from Kosher birds or animals are also Kosher.
When you move on to a meat dish, you may want to talk about things that should never be brought into a Kosher kitchen, such as pork. You may also want to talk about a few ways to purify cooking or storage items that have been used improperly.
