While all gardens are full of growing, living things, some of them are not so wonderful. So when your garden has some living things in the form of garden pests, take these simple steps to show these uninvited guests the garden gate.
When thinking of ridding your garden of pests, pesticides and sprays may immediately come to mind. But there is a gentler yet effective way. There are many herbs that repel insects and bugs. Basil will keep away flies and mosquitoes; however, take care not to plant basil near rue as they don’t coexist well. Planting catnip will deter flea beetles and ants while planting coriander will deter aphids. If you want to repel flying insects, Japanese beetles, striped cucumber beetles, squash bugs, ants and flies, you need only plant tansy. Ironically, planting the mole plant will deter both moles and mice.
