With today’s rising energy costs, replacing single-pane home windows with double-insulated windows has become a popular home improvement idea. Designed with multiple panes of glass, modern windows include insulating gases between each pane, and they are coated with special treatments to promote the release of heat in the summer and the retention of heat in the winter. Before installing your do it yourself replacement windows, be sure they’re labeled as "energy-efficient" by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC). Keep in mind that wood home windows save more energy than vinyl or metal.
