Courage

You're My Second Mama, Aren't You?

There were so many things that amazed me about being a mother.  First of all… how funny children are, how fun they are to watch, and also how courageous they can be.

The authors of Being Adopted, The Lifelong Search for Self state:  "Children in our society suffer from other losses, of course, such as the loss of a parent to death or divorce.  But none of these losses is quite like the loss of adoption. Our own experience tells us that from a child's point of view, adoption is by far the most complicated loss."

Jaik displayed his courage by simply internalizing whatever he was feeling, and doing everything he could to fit in and be the child he thought I wanted.  Stacee had the courage to test my staying power and my willingness to love her no matter what she did.

Brandon displayed his courage by giving voice to all of the fear, sadness and grief he felt.
