During the first trimester of pregnancy, you will have your first prenatal care doctor’s visit. Of course, your visit will be unique to your medical history, but will most likely go as follows. This might be a lengthy one, due to all the things that need to be covered. It is helpful to bring a list of your questions and a pen to take notes.
Your doctor will go over your medical history and try to establish a due date, which may require an ultrasound. You will need a physical and a pelvic exam, possible even a pap smear, depending on your individual case. Your doctor will most likely order blood and urine tests, ranging from a blood type test to a test for bladder infections. Your doctor may also discuss lifestyle issues and testing for fetal abnormalities. Your first prenatal visit is crucial to your health and the health of your baby, so don’t delay in scheduling it!
